Nigella Sativa Seed Oil: Inactive Ingredient

Nigella sativa seed oil, commonly known as black seed oil or kalonji, is pressed from the seeds of a flowering plant native to Southwest Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Southern Europe. It is one of the most historically documented seed oils in traditional botanical practice.
Archaeological findings trace its cultivation back more than 3,000 years. Black seed has been discovered in ancient Egyptian sites, including the tomb of Tutankhamun, as well as in Mesopotamian and Anatolian regions. Across cultures, it was included in ceremonial preparations, household remedies, and traditional plant-based formulations.
Classical medical texts such as Dioscorides’ De Materia Medica, the writings of Pliny the Elder, and Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine reference black seed as part of early botanical traditions. It has also held an enduring place within Unani, Ayurvedic, and other regional healing systems across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of South Asia.
Today, black seed oil is widely studied for its naturally occurring compounds and has become one of the most recognized botanicals in modern plant-based formulation. At Faeve, we include Nigella sativa with careful attention to sourcing, purity, and balanced formulation by respecting its deep historical roots while applying contemporary quality and regulatory standards.
